Aloha.

My name is Colin Hanlon and I’m running for State Representative in District 11, South Maui.

For the past 20 years, I’ve watched South Maui grow. It’s been the fastest growing region in the state for more than a decade and it’s one of the largest economic engines of Hawai’i.  Yet our basic infrastructure trails the rest of the state.

South Maui needs a stronger voice to get our fair share.

South Maui’s grown, and I’ve grown with it: I built a career here, I bought a house here, my children were born and schooled here, and I scattered the ashes of my parents here.

I grew a career here. My first job was camp counselor at the former Grand Hyatt in our number one industry, tourism.

Today, I have one of the most rewarding jobs on Maui: Chief Professional Officer of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Maui. I see firsthand every day how our federal, state and county policies affect our kids. I’ve worked my entire career to serve them better. I fight every day to help provide them with a supportive, safe and healthy environment. At the Boys & Girls Clubs we’re about creating opportunities for the children of our communities.

Now, I want to do the same for everyone in South Maui.

My children attend Maui’s public schools. Our children deserve a world-class education and a world class new high school. Too many of Hawaii’s children do not graduate from high school. They deserve better.

We need to create the opportunities that attract and retain the small and large businesses that will provide good jobs for South Maui’s working families. We deserve safer roads and less traffic.  We deserve access to quality emergency and urgent medical care in South Maui.

My platform is pretty simple: Opportunity & Fairness for South Maui. As an economic center and the fastest growing region, we deserve better: A strong, effective voice in Honolulu.

Mahalo.
